Our History
In the summer of 2009 the District of Sooke asked Sooke Food CHI to plan and develop a community garden which would be the community’s first community garden and allotment garden supported by local government. The District has title to this land, while Sooke Food CHI has the license to occupy and manage the gardens. Sunriver Community Gardens Council manages the operation of the allotment.
Beginning in the early spring of 2010 a 2.5 acre site (part of the old Phillips Farm) at 2380 Phillips Road began to take shape. Access lanes, pathways, fences, gates, drains, irrigation all were installed in addition to 60 odd allotment plots and a number of garden amenities – tool shed, gazebo, and composts.
